The need for vibration testing is currently growing in each industry; for vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers vibration testing represents nowadays an indispensable element.
Carmakers often release their own test specifications which the single suppliers have to comply with; the specifications apply to different item types, such headlamps, rearlamps, handles, control units, board panels, engine components, air-conditioning systems, etc.

Among the different supply specifications there is always one specification relevant to environmental tests. Centrotecnica supports vehicle manufacturers by performing different test types:

  • Combined test “vibration+climatic+functioning cycles of the DUT” (to simulate the real DUT fatigue conditions);
  • Mechanical shocks and Bump test (to simulate impacts or collisions of different degrees);
  • Rain test (possibly combined with functioning cycles)

automotiveAnother test type which regards more the comfort than the functionality aspect of automotive products (but considered as important as other tests by vehicle manufacturers) is the Squeak & Rattle test; the noises generated within the cockpit by rubbing or rattling of different materials, besides bothering the human ear, are perceived as danger signals. The purpose of the Squeak and Rattle test is therefore to measure these noises to try to reduce them, by modifying the product, and verify the accuracy of the modification by performing comparative tests.
